TRUE STORY
The radio announcer has decided not to go by the script. Still, her
voice comes out loud and clear. “I was eight years old when I was raped.
I was hungry and the only person who was willing to give me food was
someone who wanted something in exchange. In that exchange I lost
esteem, my psychological well-being and since then I never really saw
myself as worth anything more than a plate of rice. This is why I do the
work that I do. If we as survivors are not ready to tell the story the
way it should be told, then people will not understand the suffering of
people who experience rape.” Learn how we support women-controlled
airwaves as a powerful platform to bring women’s issues onto the agenda
